WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE NAME "AMPERSAND"?
The Ampersand is a symbol of joining two parts. We like to think of it as a metaphor for us coming alongside to link up with individuals in order to help them live to their greatest potential, for life!
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF AMPERSAND AND WHY DID WE CREATE IT?
Ampersand was created to provide a safe, loving environment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and to equip them with the skills necessary to access happiness and meet their goals.
HOW LONG HAS AMPERSAND EXISTED?
Ampersand is new but has been In the heart of our founder for years. Based on her 20+ years experience, she uncovered a significant need for person centered programs for adults focusing on autonomy and choice. We strive to do our part to address this need by creating a community that will bring opportunities in these areas.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR AMPERSAND COMMUNITY SERVICES?
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, age 18 years plus. Decisions for eligibility are based on many varying factors. Please fill out our Admission Form so that we can effectively assess alignment and begin the conversation of placement at Ampersand.
WILL YOU ACCEPT ALL INDIVIDUALS THAT APPLY?
Ampersand will accept about 12 adults into its program at any given time. Our goal is to keep programming small in order to provide individuals with more support and attention.
HOW MUCH IS TUITION? AND ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS?
Ampersand offers several options. Individuals can choose 2-5 days per week enrollment. Contact us today for more detailed tuition information. Additional costs could include yearly materials fees, the Metra train fare to local communities, special outings, or onsite events.
WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF TIME INDIVIDUALS ATTEND AMPERSAND'S PROGRAM?
There is no set length of time for the program. Our goal is to create a community for individuals and the support team. The length of time is dependent on the individual’s interests, goals, and life plans.
WHAT IS THE PROGRAM FOCUS?
Relationships, Community Participation, Fun and Leisure, Jobs and Vocational Training, and Autonomy. Individuals and their families work with Ampersand to create an individualized plan for programming based on their interest. We pride ourselves on being flexible.
WHAT HAPPENS IF AN INDIVIDUAL WISHES TO COME BACK TO AMPERSAND AFTER PLACED IN A JOB OR LEAVING FOR ANY OTHER REASON?
Our doors are always open. We understand things change and individuals can rejoin the community. Some individuals might be happy in their employment but want to come to Ampersand to continue to develop new skills. This can be done on a part-time basis with Ampersand to ensure continued employment concurrently.
HOW WILL AMPERSAND COMMUNICATE WITH CAREGIVERS?
Ampersand will hold meetings with caregivers every 3-6 months to review progress, data, victories and hurdles. We will review previous goals and future goals. Any pivots to programming will be discussed. The individual is always present at these meetings. Private meetings can be held at any time outside of these intervals, and can be requested by Ampersand or guardians.

WHAT IS THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS?
